Bio: Nonfiction books, articles, greeting cards, copywriting, personal essays, fillers, short stories, poems – Wendy Burt-Thomas has made money from all of them.  A full-time freelance writer, she’ll talk about how to make great money – and keep things interesting – by keeping your fingers in all the pots.  Plenty of time for Q & A – no question is taboo!  Wendy will have copies of her third book, “The Writer’s Digest Guide to Queries; Landing Articles, Agents and Book Deals” (Writer’s Digest Books, Dec. 2008) available. Speaker: Joan Cameron Mitchell, author

Topic: TEAR DOWN THIS WALL! A Berlin Memoir: 1984-1988

Joan Cameron Mitchell will discuss her new book, chronicling the exciting events the Mitchells enjoyed in occupied Berlin, when her husband, John, was the commandant in the American sector in the former West Berlin.  They stood behind President Reagan when, in 1987, he said, "Tear down this wall."

Bio: Joan Cameron Mitchell was born and educated in Scotland.  She emigrated to North America and taught elementary school in Canada and the United States.  While teaching in Colorado Springs, she met and married Army Lieutenant John Mitchell.  Joan is an artist, author and a member of Pen Women.  Visit her website.

Speaker: Donna Guthrie, author and filmmaker

Topic: Storytelling for the 21st Century

Children's author, Donna Guthrie, presents MEET ME AT THE CORNER, Virtual Field Trips for Kids, a new educational series of video pod casts produced for the world wide web.  Donna will present two short videos from her series and discuss the joys and challenges of writing for tech-savvy children raised in a point and click world.

Bio: Donna is the author of more than twenty award-winning books for children.  She has taught kindergarten through fifth grade in both public and private schools in Pennsylvania and Colorado and is a visiting professor at Colorado college where she teaches children's writing

She founded kids Corner, Ltd., an independent audiovisual company producing films to educate children about medical, health and family issues.  She established the firm in 1980; ten years later she sold the company to Myers Broadcasting Company.

In January 2006 she received her Masters in Fine Arts in Children's and Young Adult Writing at Vermont College in Montpelier, Vermont.  She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and The Dramatist Guild.  She is co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Women's Film Festival and the Six Women Playwriting Festival, both of which are held each year in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Check out her website.
