We had a very special May meeting in the Penrose House, listening to Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Emeritus Lois Hayna, talk about “The Problem with Poetry” and then read her own work. She’s a wonderful inspiration to us all.

Wendy Burt won first place in the Pikes Peak Writers Conference flash fiction contest. She won 20 books, 3 CDs, a bottle of wine and a $600 scholarship to a Breckenridge writing retreat for which they fly in some agents/editors. (Limited to 10 writers!)

Beverly Lewis’s most recent novel, The Secret, debuted at #10 on the NY Times best-selling list for trade paper books.

Nancy Bentley is a finalist for a Colorado Author’s League Top Hands Award in the Children’s/YA Non-fiction category.

Nancy Parker Brummett has contracted to write introductions to each of the 66 books of the Bible for the HUGS Bible for Women released by Thomas Nelson and Howard Publishing, a division of Simon & Schuster. This beautiful pink Bible, interspersed with some of the inspirational HUGS devotionals, is available in local Christian bookstores.

Diane Hoover is working on a short story for Women in Writing, WOW.  This is her 3rd story for them. The first won an honorable mention, the second is a finalist, and she’s working on another, due May 31st

Joan Mitchell has six paintings in the Broadmoor “Fresh Paint” exhibit, June 8th. Joan will also be giving a Pillar class on June 10th – come and enjoy her presentation on the creative life in retirement.

Prospective member Margaret Brettschneider has a new book called Mama Told Me Not to Come, coming out in the next few months.

Victoria Heim author of two published poetry books has a photo gallery on You Tube.

Virginia Campbell Virginia Franklin Campbell, National Music Chair, is planning a Biennial session in Little Rock, Arkansas, that will complement the theme for the Biennial, Three Ways to Tell Her Story.  This is a collaborative project engaging Art, Letters and Music members of The League in creating a visual, literary and musical work.  The inspiration for the endeavor comes from Eric Carle's book I see a Song.
